Due to both direct and indirect environmental impacts that buildings have on their surroundings, building standards and system improvement strategies must be establish to keep a harmonic balance between businesses and the environment. An energy audit activity can assist private or public institutions improve their energy performances by helping them to become more aware of their energy efficiency and consumption level. Energy audit is an inspection survey and an analysis of energy flows for energy efficiency and conservation in a building. It will include a process or system change in behavior to reduce the amount of energy input into the system without affecting the output. To establish a process of continuous improvement in energy efficiency and conservation, institutions need to implement an energy management system in place or carryout an assessment of their energy usage at a certain point of time. The Department of Energy will be the focal point to offer guidance and highlighting key areas where you could save on excessive energy consumption. Below are the objectives of our Energy audit activities:
- Conduct a simple Walk-Through audit or observation of the energy consumption of electrical equipments within an institution (e.g. schools, hospitals, offices, etc.).Review and analyze energy usage history to create a baseline for which savings can be measured within an audited building.Determine what can be done to reduce energy consumption and what options are available for system improvements if funding is available.Identify and evaluate measures that could improve the environmental performance of a building.Provide general recommendations to be taken to reduce energy consumption
