Port Vila, 12 April 2021. The Department of Energy wishes to advise all vehicle owners that there will be an increase to fuel price as of tomorrow, 13th April 2021.

There will be an increase in the wholesale and retail price of mazut by 9 vatu per litre while benzene price will remain the same. The wholesale price of mazut will be 129vt/litre. This price variation is based purely on MOPS increase, and on the first in first out (FIFO) process for fuel stocks.

By tomorrow morning we can see the pump prices for mazut to be 141vt/litre after the current stocks are depleted and the new prices are calculated based on the new stock received on 9th April 2021. This is an upward variation in the prices and is reflecting an increase of 16% on the MOPS (Means of Platts Singapore-the MOPS is a pricing basis for refined products in Southeast Asia. It refers to the average price reported by the price assessment agency Platts for a product in the Singapore trading hub.

For most refined products, MOPS is the benchmark price for the Asia market. The refined petroleum products mazut and benzene are purchased from Singapore and also from other Asian refineries in Malaysia and South Korea for distribution in Vanuatu.
