PORT VILA, 14th August 2023. Under Article 6 of the Port Vila Concession contract between the Government of Vanuatu and Unelco Engie, the Honorable Minister of Climate Change, Hon. Ralph Regenvanu, representing the Government of Vanuatu, endorsed the use of the Article 6 Funds for the electricity grid extensions to electrify unserved areas and/or communities within the Concession jurisdiction or boundary.
With this endorsement, UNELCO as the Utility responsible will be mandated to facilitate the construction, connection, and commissioning of the network extension. The extension will be made to the following areas of North Efate;
- High and Low Voltage including a substation for the grid extension from Paunagisu Village to Onesua to electrify the community of Savaki and Takara including Onesua Presbyterian College; and Low Voltage (LV) extension including a Substation to electrify Malatia School at Undine Bay
This initiative anticipates an increase in access to electricity for North Efate communities and realizes the National Energy Road Map target of 100% Access to electricity by 2030.
