Port Vila, 19th April,2022. Prices of petrol at the pumps will rise further on Wednesday 20th April and next month.
With the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February of 2022 the demand for oil cause prices to hike. The crude oil price hikes are therefore reflected in the downstream side that shows in the imports of petrol and diesel in February 2022 into Vanuatu by the petroleum product supplier. The petrol imported in February is now to be released into the retail markets on 20th April with the price of 195 Vatu per Liter. This is an increase of 22 Vatu per Liter from the previous retail price of 173 Vatu per Liter.
The prices are based on the cost fluctuations of the Means of Platts Singapore (MOPS), the regional pricing benchmark adopted in the downstream oil industry, including other cost components, foreign exchange rate, and other charges.
The petrol grade dispensed at the pumps is the 95 RON Petrol.”
Easy ways to improve fuel efficiency and save some money at the pump
- Accelerate and decelerate a little slower. More energy wasted to accelerate again. Change the way we drive by slowing down a little bit. By accelerating a little bit more slowly can improve the fuel economy of our vehicle with no extra cost. Refer to your car manual for best speeds to achieve maximum fuel economy.
- Anticipate flow of traffic by looking ahead. Read the traffic ahead for roundabouts and intersections to give way. Feed into roundabouts rather than stop. Planning your trip. Make sure you route out your trip to avoid long distances can make a difference in fuel economy
- Slow down when reasonable. Get into the highest possible gear as soon as possible without laboring the engine, as being in low gear can burn through fuel more quickly. Do not idle your engine for too long.
- Switch cars. Use a car that is smaller with less mass to move and so less fuel to burn per kilometer
- Keep the tyres properly inflated
- Keep in mind that a car is designed to be aerodynamically efficient and extras such as roof racks, bull bars and bike bars, etc. will increase the drag and therefore fuel consumption will be higher especially in the highway.
- And lastly, just getting some of the weight out of the car can make a difference
When you put these things together you can really save money at the pump and also do good things for the environment.
